Our Activities
GMC-Africa participants focus on clinical work at our partner hospitals in Arusha, Tanzania, and on community outreach. Working alongside local doctors and staff, and living together in a shared house, you experience healthcare in Africa as it is today.
Work at Our Partner Hospitals
Your placement is chosen from our six partner hospitals in Arusha according to your profession and the specialty you are interested in. All activities take place under the supervision of a local supervisor and are adjusted to each participant’s level of training.
- Observing and assisting in outpatient clinics
- Joining ward rounds
- Participating in surgery
- Case discussions with local healthcare staff
- Medical education (lectures, BLS training, etc.)
- Supporting medical equipment maintenance
Outreach (Community Health)
Together with local doctors, you travel to communities where people have difficulty reaching a hospital. You can take part in community-based health activities such as medical check-ups, health education and vaccinations.

Life in Arusha
During your stay, you live with other participants at GMC House, located in a quiet residential area about 10 minutes from the hospital. The house has 24-hour security and Wi-Fi, and meals are prepared by a cook, so you can focus on your work.
