For Physicians and Medical Students
Work on the clinical front line alongside local doctors at our partner hospitals in Arusha, Tanzania
Who this program is for
- Medical students and residents who hope to work in international medicine or global health
- Anyone who wants first-hand experience of clinical care in a resource-limited setting
- Those seeking a placement in a specific specialty, such as internal medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, ICU, pediatrics, NICU or anesthesiology
- Those who want to go beyond the classroom and care for real patients
What you will do
We match you to one of our six partner hospitals in Arusha based on your preferred specialty and level of experience. Under the supervision of local doctors, you will assist in outpatient clinics and on the wards, join case conferences, and take part in community outreach such as health check-ups and health education.
GMC-Africa arranges your accommodation and local transport, so even if it is your first time in Africa you can focus on your clinical work.
What you will gain
- Clinical judgment for delivering the best possible care with limited resources
- Communication skills to build trust with patients across language and cultural barriers
- A fresh perspective on the healthcare system you know at home
- A network of local doctors and healthcare students from around the world
