Hello everyone, and nice to meet you.
My name is Naoya Sakai, and I am the representative of Global Medcare Africa.
Together with my friends Noel and Vincent, both doctors in Tanzania, I have founded “GlobalMedCare Africa”, an organization that enables people to intern and volunteer at medical institutions in Tanzania and elsewhere in Africa.
We want to give healthcare professionals and students aspiring to work in medicine a place to gain hands-on experience in clinical settings in Africa and other developing countries, to understand the realities of healthcare there, and to contribute to local hospitals and communities. We also hope to help them take the leap into international cooperation and global health later in their careers.
As we have only just started, our activities are currently limited to Arusha, Tanzania. There, participants can work in a wide range of fields, including emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics and infectious diseases. I know from my own experience that working in a region with a different cultural background and healthcare environment not only broadens your perspective as a healthcare professional, but also becomes an invaluable asset for your future career.
Our work is guided by one theme: “delivering equal healthcare to every patient.”
The people you meet and the time you spend with like-minded volunteers and interns can become a lifelong treasure, and can even lead to unexpected career opportunities.
Africa may feel a little far from Japan, but why not start by getting to know it?
Thank you, and we look forward to working with you.
Naoya Sakai
